On this episode of Campground of the Week, our Pacific Northwest correspondent, Neil Potter, shares a glowing review of the Astoria KOA. Located in the northwestern corner of Oregon, a two-hour drive from Portland, this resort campground is just minutes from Highway 101 and the beautiful coastline.
The Astoria KOA was Neil’s first experience with resort camping, and he talks about what an amazing time his family had enjoying the activities and amenities at the campground. It’s a pretty large place, with over 200 campsites and dozens of cabins, but Neil says that the layout makes it feel comfortable and cozy nevertheless.
Activities and Amenities include:
- Food service–Iredale’s Wheelhouse
- Outdoor pool
- Indoor pool
- Hot tub
- Game room
- Mini golf
- Giant lawn chess and checkers
- Dog Park
- Volleyball and basketball courts
- Horseshoe pits
- and MORE!
He offers some insider tips on choosing a site at this campground, and discusses his positive experiences with customer service.
Plus, Neil gives us recommendations for exploring the nearby area:
- Beach/Coastline
- Fort Stevens State Park
- Fort George Brewery
- Fort Clatsop National Memorial
- Astoria Column
- Astoria-Megler Bridge
- Goonies House!!!
If you visit the Astoria KOA, make sure you leave enough time to enjoy both the resort campground and the surrounding region. You won’t be disappointed with either!
