On this episode of Campground of the Week, Kate Dunbar of katescuriouskitchen.com, tells us about her family’s visit to a famous bucket list destination: The Grand Canyon. Kate stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park, located in the town of Williams, Arizona which is known both as the gateway to the Grand Canyon and a legendary stop along Route 66.
The Grand Canyon Railway RV Park is part of the Grand Canyon Railway and Hotel, and guests at the RV park have access to all the hotel amenities. Guests also have access to the Grand Canyon train, which has been transporting visitors into the National Park since 1901.
We think Kate’s single most important insider tip is to check out the package deals that are on the Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel website. She suggests thinking about spending a night inside the national park as well, since it can be difficult to travel in and out in a single day. She also reminds us to pack a picnic lunch so we don’t waste time battling the restaurant crowds instead of enjoying the park.
We also spend quite a bit of time discussing the fun town of Williams, and Kate recommends the following places:
- Cafe 326
- Pine Country Restaurant
- Red Raven
- Colors of the West
- Western Outfitters and Saddlery
- The Gallery
Kate also recommends downloading the Williams visitor guide from www.experiencewilliams.com.
Planning a trip to the Grand Canyon can be a difficult and overwhelming task. Kate’s review will go a long way toward ensuring you enjoy this wonder of the natural world when you get to check it off your bucket list.
See you at the campground!
