Even though I was conducting a ton of interviews while at the RVIA show in Louisville last month, I also ended up in the hot seat myself!
One of the highlights of my trip was talking to Alan Taylor, host of the national radio show The Drive, who knows an awful lot about cars and the auto industry. He also has a few of his own RVs and a gaggle of kids, so we hit it off and had a great time recording an interview for his radio show.
I am interviewed in the first two segments of the December 18th show, and talk about our personal journey entering into the RV lifestyle. You can listen to the interview on The Drive’s Website, or get the podcast episode here in iTunes.
The rest of the show is packed with great RV industry content as well. Alan Taylor interviews Winnebago about their constant quest to stay ahead of the competition by innovating within their product lines.
Then he talks to Jon Krider, marketing manager for Thor–the largest RV company in the world. The interview takes place inside the Outlaw, the only Class C Toy Hauler available on the market right now. Alan seems to be as obsessed with the concept of a toy hauler as we are. Jon Krider also talks about the attempt to appeal to Gen Xers by updating the design and style of motorhomes. This will be a welcome conversation for those that feel left out of the Baby Boomer/ Millennial marketing talk.
Derald Bontrager, the CEO of Jayco, talks about the history of his family’s company that started on a farm and has grown to produce 40,000 RVs each year. Listen to hear him dish on the how he and his wife disagree on the ideal RV. Apparently, this is a common marital dispute!
And remember that picture we posted on Instagram of the Romotow, custom trailers that are currently manufactured New Zealand? Alan interviews the designers about their “Swiss Army Knife” version of an RV.
The show wraps up with plenty of product chat from Dometic and Thetford, the companies that are responsible for many of your RV refrigerators, water heaters, and toilets. And yes, there are plenty of potty humor moments for those who enjoy that sort of thing. Lord knows it’s a popular topic in this house full of boys.
I had a great time chatting with Alan and almost as much fun listening to the rest of 2015 RVIA Show episode. Take a listen and let us know your thoughts, in the comments below and on the forum! And if you missed our RVIA podcast, check that out as well.
Best, Stephanie
